I agree that it is a Golden Pothos, and I'm surprised that it's been growing/maintaining for so long in just water. I've never had luck with that, except for just rooting a cutting, and then directly back into soil. Click the link that Tiffany added, and you can see the best growing conditions for this plant. In my experience they prefer to 'dry out' a bit between thorough waterings. Excellent drainage is necessary for them to thrive, and grow. A draft in my opinion, wouldn't be as harmful as strong sunshine. A dappling of sun is fine, but the bright indirect light is best.

edited to add that the darker roots are most likely the ones that are mushy, and dead. The lighter/white/green roots would be your good ones.
