Mike, I've had a couple rot. Wasn't sure if it was too much water or fertilizer. I miss treat all the same so why one or two develop rot and rest don't.

SGT, this plant is likely 3 or 4 years old, not sure. I have heard the story about root bound but I don't know. My opinion is too little soil or too many roots is bad. I try to balance it but I have got several Hugh Epis I suspect have no soil in pot. The only time I ever saw the question answered about re-potting large epis, they weren't large. If I can ever get clear how to up-load pictures I'll show a couple of my large plants.
