I didn't know that Dahlia was the national flower of Mexico. That's a cool little factoid!

As for asking about it, I'm sure it's a Dahlia, like you said, LoL! I am not a dahlia expert by any means, I just have never seen one quite like that. It's really pretty! It almost reminds me of those laffy taffys that were strawberry taffy and banana taffy mixed. Do they still make those? Wow, that brings back some childhood Halloween memories! Hilarious!
