I may sound very ignorant (which is true Rolling on the floor laughing ), but can you explain what that means: 'lining out' single fans?

Let's say you have a big clump of a daylily you want to introduce.
You line it out in a row of single or double fans, that away when your ready to release it you don't have to divide it.
