Ahead said:Ah, gather around, all you young daylily enthusiasts, and let Grandpa Ahead tell you a foolish story or two.

A few years ago, a very tall TN friend and I decided to get in on the Gaskin fun. I think it was their second listings of seedlings, and the prices were going through the roof. My tall friend and I pooled our finances, and jumped into the bidding. We used his alias.

The bidding was fast and furious, and it was great fun to feel part of the excitement. We both had just finished a very profitable year, which allowed us to be dumb together. We ended up winning, and no, I won't tell you how much, and the plant was sent to my friend, with me getting a piece in the spring. It has been gorgeous for him, and reluctant for me. I have no seeds from it, and now never will.

The lesson here for all of you gathered around? If you want to have some dumb fun, find a rich friend (James, are you listening...lol), and join in the excitement!

Many times I will need to end a story to my many grandkids.....NEVER do what grandpa did....lol.

Hey - I've gotten into my fair share of trouble though none of it daylily related and this auction is too rich for my blood. I really only pry the wallet open further than this for conversions. I'm kind of curious though, how a plant like this would perform in the south. Something that grows that kind of edge in the north may be bonkers in Florida. Similar to one that Guiru Zhang has (which may have RS as a parent as well)
