Well - I think you will do just fine. Obviously with your care and concern - those are big factors. Most people who fail with plants do so because they don't care enough. :-)
To research care of your plant, search for Stephanotis, not jasmine - though overall care will be similar.
I made some cuttings of my Star "Jasmine" (**) and so far they have not died. In the past, I have had no luck, If they do take, in the Spring I could send you one for postage.
** Like Stephanotis, Star Jasmine is not a true jasmine either but a member of the Trachelospermum genus. True Jasmines are in the genus Jasminum
