This was taken in the middle of October when I was clearing out weeds for a new batch of natives. I have several of these plants on this side of the house and maybe half of them had these funny looking shoots. Is this normal? The standard leaves are narrow. I put these in the ground early June this year, if I remember, and they did not flower.

I believe these are the Pycnanthemum virginianum species, but the company I ordered from sometimes gives me something other than what I asked for. (Nothing major, but once I ordered Joe Pye Weed and they gave me Sweet Joe Pye) I no longer have the tag that came with the plants.
