It is obvious from the shots Leslieray provided that the plant has been cut back to near the ground, making it produce long shoots.

As a kid growing up in Aus on a farm, me and my brothers used to weave the long shoots of tea-tree to make a hideout, those were the days before kids had all sorts of manufactured rubbish thrust upon them but not everybody was fortunate to live in the country on a farm. The dirt road to our farm was a mile from the main road, there was plentiful wildflowers, bottlebrushes and tea-trees along the side of the road.
