I've been into plant and animal genetics my whole life.
I work with collecting and hybridizing over five genuses of plants.
1. Saintpaulia (not as much these days)
2. Schlumbergera i.e. Holiday cactus (hybridizing)
3. Disocactus and Selenicereus hybrids i.e. Epicactus/Dragonfruit (hybridizing)
4. Hoya (hybridizing is difficult)
5. Hippeastrum (hybridizing)
6. Hemerocallis (hybridizing)
7. Ficus carica
8. Vitis (grapes, I would like to hybridize but it's difficult. I've never had a place to grow them long enough to make anything possible).
And other plants, including but not limited to genus rosa and echinopsis. I'm also very interested in hybridizing Maxima squash and other commercial fruits and vegetables.
I had to give it up with my animals unfortunately a couple years ago due to a disability, so I have become more involved in growing daylilies outside.
My goal in working with plants is to leave something good behind for the next generation, and to keep me from losing my mind. 😅
I'd love to talk about daylilies and plant genetics. Feel free to reach out, I enjoy making new friends.
Thanks for reading, Pete.
