Dallas Organic Garden Club Meeting with 3:00pm program:
'Victory Garden!' with Carol Garrison
Carol is a North Texas Master Naturalist with a passion for conservation. Keeping one foot in the natural sciences and one foot in the medical field, Carol spends 3 days a week as an educator at the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center, and spends 2 days a week as a prosthetist/orthotist.
Over the past 5 years, Carol and her husband Daniel converted their Saint Augustine yards into sustainable organic vegetable gardens in the form of genuine Victory Gardens. This process has included the addition of chickens,250 gallon rain catchment system (with an additional 825 to be functioning by February 2019), 192 sq foot greenhouse, grape vines, blackberry patches, and a 110 gallon pond. During this process, Carol and Daniel have encountered coding issues, neighborhood acceptance, and herbicide drift from neighbors. Garland Victory Gardens has been featured in The Dallas Morning News and Richardson Living Magazines. This presentation will offer a pictorial history of the garden development with advice regarding front yard gardening in the city.
The Greater Dallas Organic Gardening Club meets at North Haven Gardens in the Classroom. Open to the public.
