Calendar of Events: Huntington Botanical Gardens - 45th Annual Spring Plant Sale.

Event Date: Apr 26, 2019 10:34 PM - 10:34 PM

Every Saturday, 10am-1pm. Ranch Open House. Stop by The Huntington's urban agriculture site during our weekly open house and pick up some fresh ideas for sustainable gardening. Volunteers from the University of California Los Angeles County Master Gardener program will be on hand to answer questions and offer seasonal tips. The half-acre Ranch Garden—part classroom and part research lab—draws inspiration from The Huntington's agricultural heritage to explore optimal approaches to gardening in Southern California's semi-arid climate. The mission of the Ranch is to reconnect people with their food in beautiful and livable ways, inspiring visitors to incorporate edibles into the landscape of their home gardens. Visit huntington.org/ranchgarden/ to learn more. From the Teaching Greenhouse, follow signs to the site. Repeats every Saturday. Cancelled in the event of rain.

Saturday, 4/13, 11am-3pm. Family Day Celebrating Planet Earth. Earth Day is coming up April 22. Get into the spirit with a day of family fun in celebration of the planet we all call home. Learn all about plants and pollination; become an eco-sleuth and investigate the ecosystems in the gardens that animals and other living things inhabit; and enjoy an all-ages concert (at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) with the early education musicians from Play Music.

Thursday, 4/18, 2:30pm, Ahmanson Room, Brody Botanical Center. Garden Talk & Plant Sale: Beyond Cactus: Green Gardens That Don't Break the Water Bank. Jill Vig, curator of the Water Conservation Garden at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, will share some of her top plant picks and design strategies for creating a lushly beautiful, water-wise landscape.

Friday through Sunday, 4/26 through 4/28, 10am-5pm, Brody Botanical Center. 45th Annual Spring Plant Sale. Give your garden a fresh look for spring! Inspiring ideas and thousands of great plants will abound at The Huntington's popular annual sale. The event's extensive selection includes many water-wise Southwestern, native Californian, and Australian plants—ceanothus, tecoma, manzanita, and westringia, among others—that will bring abundant color and texture to your garden without using a lot of water. Cacti and succulents make a bold statement in the landscape, and there will be a wide variety to choose from. Shoppers will also find a great assortment of tomato plants (Julia Child, Chocolate Stripe, and Wild Tiger are three of our top sellers) vegetable seedlings, fruit trees, herbs, and other edibles—plus much more! Members shop early: The sale is open to Members only on Friday (all day) and on Saturday until 1 p.m.; open to all visitors on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday (all day).
