Who knew Texas had native orchids?
Join us Saturday, July 20th as NHG welcomes guest speaker Stephanie Varnum to spotlight some unique plants in our home state.
Fifty-four species of wild orchids grow in Texas, and they are found in all ten of our state's natural regions. They range from the moderately common to the extremely rare and critically endangered. Stephanie presents an interesting overview of these, but also focuses on the seven non-photosynthetic, myco-heterotrophic orchids of the Hexalectris genus. These beautiful, uncommon orchids are difficult to propagate, so the only way to ensure their future is to protect their habitats, and this impacts all of us.
Need to find out what all this means? Learn more about the fascinating world of our own orchids in this new, free class.
