Centerpieces in a Snap

Some of the prettiest flower arrangements you will ever have are spontaneous works of art — and the beauty of the artwork is its simplicity. Try these two simple arrangements for a delightful centerpiece to adorn your Thanksgiving Table.

Blooming Cabbage

This arrangement does not need water. When the party is over, the "blooms" become soup for the next day.

What you need:

  • 1 head purple cabbage
  • Variety of vegetables: broccoli, carrots, corn, peppers, baby squash, etc.
  • Bamboo skewers or floral sticks

Putting it together:

  • Slice off the bottom of the head of cabbage to stabilize it.
  • Insert a skewer into a vegetable. Drive the opposite end of the skewer into the head of cabbage (starting in the center with the tallest vegetable).
  • Continue adding more vegetables until the cabbage is full.
  • Dress the base of the cabbage using pea pods or leaves of flowering kale.

Fall Embellishment

Take advantage of nature's fall jewels — adorn your table with them.

1. Surround a medium-sized pumpkin or winter squash with a garland. We used an artificial copper glazed magnolia garland. You could cut vines from the leftover garden or use grapevine.

2. Tuck in three small winter squash.

3. Finish by tucking in dried berries. We used mountain ash berries.

4. Surround with clear glass votives.
