Do cone flowers sprout and bloom the first year? I planted same time (end of April) as dahlias but only dahlias are coming up and do not see any cone flower activity yet

Coneflowers do sprout, grow and flower the first year the seeds are sown so if yours haven't sprouted yet you may need to dig down around the seeds and see what's going on with them. If they remained too wet they may have rotted; if they were planted too deeply, they may run out of energy before they reach the soil surface. Or, birds may have feasted on them. Hope they come up soon!
