I don?t know that the trees are beyond repair but I will suggest you prune away all the dead limbs and branches, just to make sure they don?t blow away in a storm or drop and damage other plants in your landscape. If your trees were healthy going into the Japanese beetle attack they should recover and grow new branches. While the trees may never look beautiful, they should fill out and look reasonably attractive once they outgrow the damage. Good luck with your trees.
