There are so many different types of iris that it's difficult to give you specific details on blooming without knowing which one you are referring to. As a general planting guideline for all bulbs, space large bulbs (2 inches or more in size) 3 to 10 inches apart, small bulbs 1 to 2 inches part. Cover bulbs twice as deep as their height from top to bottom, in other words a 2-inch tall bulb would need a 6-inch deep hole (2 inches for the bulb, plus 4 inches of soil on top). Most iris can be planted in fall, 6 weeks before your first frost. Please send another email with the specific iris you are wondering about if you'd like more details. Thanks for writing.
