|My papaya tree from Home Depot is doing beautifully and I now have lots of papayas. Problem is, 2 papaya fruit flies have inflicted their damage and some of the fruit has oozed a waxy substance. When do I actually pick the papayas from the tree- and will I find nasty stuff inside from the fruit flies? eww!

|Papaya can be ripened off the plant after appearance of a yellow tinge at the apical end, but the fruit attains best quality if harvest is delayed until the fruit is completely yellow. Hard to predict if there will be interior problems--let's hope not!
