How far from a walnut tree is it safe to plant tomatoes? Lost 30 plants last year not knowing they were toxic to tomatoes.

Walnut tree leaves and roots contain a chemical called juglone. Some plants are tolerant of juglone but tomatoes are not tolerant at all so you'll want to keep them as far away as possible from your walnut tree. An alternative would be to grow your tomatoes in containers using potting soil rather than garden soil.
