My river birch has a pink crystal-looking growth or something on several leaves. Help!! What do I do for the tree and will it spread?

What you are seeing are galls caused by little mites. The mites are long gone now and the growths won't hurt your tree so you can just leave the affected leaves alone or you can cut them off the tree.
