|You can dig and divide your hosta now but it will wilt and look puny for a few weeks until the roots establish again. The roots will be in a tight mass so the plant will be difficult to pull apart. I just lay it on its side and cut through the mass with a shovel blade. As long as each division has both roots and leaves attached, it will grow into a new plant. Best wishes with your project!
