Is it possible to grow vegetables such as tomatoes in the late spring and summer in South Florida. The temps are regularly 90 and above and humid.

It is possible, and it's recommended, that you grow vegetables in the fall and spring and avoid the hottest months of the summer. Here's a publication from the University of Florida listing the best planting dates for various vegetables:
