My hydrangea bush is actually a side shoot of the main crown; the main crown died 2 years ago.
The bush is now approx. 2 feet high with some lateral branching (looks more like a young tree). How do I prune it to make it fill out?

All you need to do is pinch out the very tips of the branches. This will force new growth and a bushier appearance as the new stems develop. Best wishes with your hydrangea!
