I started growing some potatoes in a garbage can filled with compost. They seem to be doing fine, as I add more compost every once and a while to keep them producing. Seeing I have never grown them before, I am wondering what the tomatoe looking fruit is on the plants stems. I thought they reproduced with tubers? Do I have something else growing here? I used seed potatoes from your store. |
When your potato plants produce flowers it's an indication to you that tubers are forming underground. You can dig a few of the "new potatoes" to eat or you can just leave them alone to grow larger. When the tops of the plants die down at the end of the summer it means your potatoes are ready to harvest. Enjoy! |
