I have small mounds of dirt all over my yard. They are about 1 1/2

I'm of the opinion the holes are from beetles which are hatching from underground larvae. Spectracide won't penetrate deeply enough to kill off the larvae immediately so you may not see any improvement until it moves deep down into the soil. You might also try using Grubex in August or September to keep any new grubs from overwintering in your lawn.
