Linseed oil is derived from flax seed (linen is made from flax, hence the name 'linseed'). Very pure forms of flaxseed oil can be taken as a dietary supplement! Check the contents of the linseed oil on the label if you have concerns about other toxic additives. If other ingredients are listed, call the manufacturer, whose phone number should be listed on the label as well, and can give you precise information about appropriate use.
