|I'm afraid that anything you use to kill the weeds will affect your flowering plants, as well. Hand digging and pulling is best and once you have the weeds out you can apply a pre emergent herbicide such as Preen to the beds to keep new weeds from sprouting. Or you can cover the bare ground with weed barrier or a thick organic mulch to keep new weeds from sprouting. I find it easiest to pull weeds when the soil is damp so water the area well the night before and by next morning the weeds should pull out easily. Best wishes with your project!
