Without further diagnosis its hard to determine why and what the problem is. Could be numerous reasons: Perhaps the trees were over-watered, under-watered, planted too deeply, planted too high, perhaps there are poor soil conditions, over-saturated soil conditions, clay soils, dense soils? Perhaps the trees have a spider mite problem?

But to keep alive, you should plant an alberta spruce in a good organic soil / well drained soil and water every 3 to 4 days. Don't water every day as they cant live in saturated soil conditions. And check the soil frequently to make sure that is well drained.

hope this helps and good luck.
