I have evergreen shrubs in the front & on the side of my house & I want them pulled out because they are ugly & I want to plant flower & ground cover where they are. How do I get them out. I tried digging one up to no avail.

If you can't dig out all the roots you'll get sprouts or suckers emerging for quite a long time. You can try recutting the stump and treating it with Brush B Gon or Round Up. these products will travel down through the roots and kill them off. Or you can cut off the suckers and immediately paint the stubs with these products. Keep at it and eventually you'll kill the roots. Hope it's soon!
