i have an Alberta Spruce that is in too much shade, resulting in less bushy appearance. it is about 8 yrs. old. Would it be ok to move it to a sunny location? When, and what else would you advise?.

You can move it but I'd suggest waiting until this fall when the weather is cooler or next spring just before new growth begins. Expect to find the majority of the roots in the top 12-18 inches of soil, extending out as far as the branch tips. I find it's easier to dig in moist soil so water your spruce the day before the planned move. Make sure it is planted at the same soil level as it is growing now and water it deeply twice a week for two weeks after the move. Good luck with the move!
