I live in the florida panhandlle near Destin. I have a small lawn area abovo a abandoned septic system. Lawn is poor st augustine many bare spots between tufts of grass. help . I work at Home Depot. Not in garden. |

The soil may be compacted which is what is keeping your St. Augustine from spreading out and covering the bare areas. I'd vigorously rake the bare areas and spread an inch of compost over them, then work it into the top two inches of soil. You can take sprigs or plugs from the healthy part of your lawn and plant them in the bare areas. They should spread out in the newly amended soil. You'll also want to fertilize your lawn to help it grow more vigorously. Hope this helps! |
