How is the best way to care for your plants while on vacation?

Indoor plants can be kept hydrated if your group them together (I put mine in a bathtub), water them well and then up-end a bottle of water and stick it into the soil up to the shoulders of the bottle. As the soil dries out water will be wicked from the bottle. Try it before you leave, though, so you'll know how long the bottle of water will last (which varies depending upon the size of the plant and the volume of soil it's planted in).
