I have tomatoes in hanging planters on a trellis. As soon as it gets any color it is half eaten. Some of the green ones have bites. I suspect a rat or squirrel is doing it. Right now I am covering each tomato with panty hose to try and stop it. Any suggestions?

Your plan sounds like a good one. An alternative is to drape the entire plant with birdnetting to keep critters away. Birds often peck holes in fruits so the birdnetting should keep most anything from accessing the fruits. Good luck with your tomatoes!
