We live in Seattle and want to plant under a big pine tree. We had the lower limbs cleared, and have a 15Ft high clearance. Looking for shrubs that are 2-8 FEET tall. Want to tier/level with dif bushes. Looking for options other than azalea, rhododendron and camellia. Want something that does something-leaf color, flowers...Are nandina or burning bush options? Will any grasses work? Thanks!

Some of the plants that will adjust to growin under pines include Artemisia, vinca minor, Heuchera (Coral Bells), Limonium, Evening Primrose (Oenothera), Penstemon, Santolina (Lavender Cotton), Campanula, hosta, impatiens and Ferns of all kinds. Azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias are good choices; Pieris and Mountain Laurel are also happy under pines. Nandina will need a few hours of sunshine or it will develop powdery mildew. Enjoy your landscape!
