Oak tree fungus - Knowledgebase Question

My Florida oak tree has several dead branches, which came on suddenly. The tree is six years old. Someone said fungus is the likely cause. How do I know if the tree has a fungus problem, and what should I do about it? Thanks.

This is one of those cases where a picture is worth a thousand words. The Dept. of Forestry has a publication you might find helpful. It describes the common oak tree diseases in your area. Here's where to download a copy:
