Just planted a dwarf eastern white pine that has / had all of its trunk from the root ball to the spherical group of branches covered with a padded white foam protector or ???. Should this be removed or should I leave it in place? What was the purpose of the white foam pad to begin with? Thanks. Regards Alex

The white foam is like a shipping container. It is designed to keep the trunk from being damaged in-transit. It should be removed but since it's summertime and hot sunshine can scald the trunk, I'd leave it on until this fall when the weather cools. At that time remove it completely, including any ties around the trunk. Best wishes with your pine!
