|Crabgrass can be prevented next year with a pre emergent but now that it is up and growing, hand pulling is about your only option if you want to protect your new grass. Next spring use the pre-emergent, reapplying in 30 days. That should keep the crabgrass under control. Proper lawn maintenance practices can limit crabgrass invasions because a dense stand of turfgrass prevents the weed from germinating and establishing.
