My mature magnolia has just this year started

The sap, or honeydew, is from aphids feeding on the leaves of your magnolia. When they feed they excrete the sticky substance. If you control the insects, the honeydew will stop dripping. Ortho? Orthene Systemic Insect Control is probably the best approach to controlling the aphids because mature trees are difficult to reach to thoroughly spray with insecticidal soaps.
