When & how much should I prune my knock-out roses & also what should I do to protect them in winter--I live in Wisconsin

Knock Out Roses are hardy so you shouldn't have to protect them in the winter. Each spring prune them back by about one third. You can prune errant branches at anytime during the growing season. Knock Out Roses are quite vigorous - enjoy!
