What makes the difference between an indoor pot and an outdoor pot. I ask because I saw a pot I really liked that had drain holes, but the tag says its for indoor use.

If the tag says indoors the plant is probably not frost tolerant. You can grow an indoor plant outdoors in a shady spot as long as you protect it from cold weather. Just how cold depends upon the plant - most indoor plants are tropical in nature and won't like temperatures under about 40F. Hope this clarifies things for you.
