We just recently put in a flowerbed (persian shields, red hibiscus, and fire bushes) and are noticing that we're getting some grass growing back into the bed! What would be the best thing to kill just the grass and not the plants?

Once the plants are in and you've pulled the weedy grass, you can use a pre emergent herbicide such as Preen to keep weed seeds from sprouting. It will last all season long. It won't kill the existing weeds but it will keep the area weed free all summer long.
