I have 2 apple trees and scattered around there are a few limbs with dead leaves I also have a pear tree the same way. I know something must be eating it but I can't see anything. What do you think it is.

Trees can tolerate insect feeding on the leaves so unless you can see and identify the pest, there's no reason to spray. Quite often an insect population will move into an area, feed for a while and then go away. The damage remains but if the insects are long gone, there's not much point in using an insectide. Good luck with your tree.
