Is there any way to stop crape myrtles from sprouting from the roots? I want them to be a tree, not a shrub.

It's difficult to keep crape myrtles from sprouting at the base. Consistently cutting them down will eventually result in scar tissue which will heal over and naturally stop the suckers from popping up. There's also a product called Sucker Stopper that can help stop the suckering growth.
