When you transplant an xmas cactus, should you try to remove all the old dirt from the roots or leave the roots undisturbed?

I usually leave the rootmass intact and just set it in a larger container. It isn't necessary to remove the old potting soil. The roots will stretch out into the new potting soil all by themselves.
