We had the money tree for about a year and it has been growing. During the last 2 weeks the leaves are browning and drying out. The top of the stems are starting to rot. Do you have any idea what's wrong with my plant? Is it malnourished or is does it have some disease?

It sounds like a disease - probably root rot and I don't know that you can save your plant. When the roots remain too moist, either from overwatering or from poor soil drainage, the roots can suffocate from lack of oxygen. When this happens the leaves die first and then the branches. There's not much you can do once the vascular system collapses. Wish I had better news for you!
