Is there something I can use to keep a groundhog away from our whiskey barrel planters filled with lamium? We had thought it was deer and used Liquid Fence and it didn't work.

The best solution is to trap and relocate the groundhog. You can try some of the repellents on the market or you can try sprinkling Epsom salts on your plant (sprinkle with water then sprinkle with Epsom salts so it will stick to the plants). The Epsom salts will taste bad and the groundhog may suddenly become uninterested in your lamium. Don't use this for an extended length of time or the soil will accumulate excessive amounts of salts which can kill the roots of your plants. One last suggestion. If you have a cat, soiled kitty litter can be an effective deterrent if set near the access point or base of your whiskey barrell. It has the same chemical odor that commercial deterrent have. Wish I had other suggestions.
