Delphinium plants will send up a single flowering stalk in the spring. When the flowers fade, cut the entire flowering stalk down to foliage level. Two or more new flowering stalks will emerge, but they will be smaller than the first. As your plant matures and develops a larger root system it will be able to send up multiple flowering stalks for a longer period of time. Be sure to prune off the spent flower stalks before you plant sets seeds or it will quit flowering. Best wishes with your delphinium.
