I have a very tall crepe myrtle tree that leans heavily to one side and because of this leaning, is very unattractive. It began to lean because of a tree that was there previously, which I have since removed.

Now, how do I make it un-lean? Should I "top" it off? I know normally "Topping" is NOT recommended, but as of now, it seems my only other option for the 10' tall crepe myrtle tree is removal.

I'd like to keep it though...any suggestions?

Topping usually does result in an unattractive tree. If you could prune it back by cutting taller limbs back to where they join side growing branches, you can lower the height while maintaining a natural look. This should also invigorate the tree, hopefully causing some new shoots to grow on the bare side which now receives adequate light.

This process may take a few years, but should yield better results in the long run.
