I HAVE 2 YEAR OLD CRAPE MYRTLES. HOW DO I PRUNE THEM TO |
New growth is produced in the springtime so pruning in the spring will help your crape myrtle fill out. Shorten the branches at the top and they will develop two new stems where there was once only one. After flowering, prune the top again and it will fill out more and bloom a second time later in the summer. After those flowers are spent, prune it back again. It will take a few years but eventually it will have a thick, full canopy. You can prune off or rub out any growth along the main trunk or any suckers that are developing at the base of your crape myrtle. Enjoy your garden! |
