Yes, you can trap slugs with a beer bait. They like the odor and will be attracted to the trap. You can use a margarine tub or cottage cheese tub, bury it in the ground, leaving about a half inch of rim above the top of the soil, and pour in an inch or two of beer. The slugs will crawl in and drown. Because Slugs like cool, moist conditions, another way to keep them at bay is by trapping them in a terra cotta pot. Take a terra cotta flower pot and soak it in water. Then set the pot upside down in your garden, propping it up on one side with a small stone or stick. Slugs will crawl into the pot to hide. Every morning pick up the trap and scrape the slugs out. Reset the trap every day (be sure the pot is wet so it will attract the pests). Or, you can use Sluggo, an iron based bait available in the Home Depot garden center. Any product not consumed will break down into simple iron and be absorbed by the soil. Best wishes with your garden!
