Hostas are usually dug and divided in the spring, just as new leaves begin to show. You can dig up the entire plant and cut through the root mass to make divisions. As long as each division has roots and a few leaves attached it will grow into a new plant. Hostas seem to be magnets to slugs and snails. They feed at night, in the early morning, and on overcast days. You can go out at night and pick them off your plants or you can use a slug and snail bait such as Sluggo to control them. Enjoy your hostas!
